Although someone originally translated the meaning to be something like “the lens that sees many things not usually seen” Scheurman believes the name moreso signifies “magnifying glass." In this way, Scheurman seems certain that the name was bestowed upon him to indicate he was the gringo with big glasses, not some sort of special seer. Santiparro’s first EP of bedroom recordings, Get Well Soon, on FM Dust, was influenced by his early experiences taking part in peyote and ayahuasca ceremonies. After its release, Scheurman relocated from Detroit to Brooklyn, where he helped form a spiritual community whose initiatic rituals informed the concepts explored on his debut full length. Scheurman was also one half of the duo Ka, whose Good Morning Every One caught the attention of Will Oldham who later encouraged Scheurman to release more music. In 2015, Gnome Life released Santiparro's self-produced True Prayer LP, featuring contributions by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Kyp Malone, and others. Its release was a significant part of Scheurman's escape plan from what had become a classic cult. He moved to Joshua Tree, CA, occasionally touring in unique & intimate settings. Spending 3 months each year in the Peruvian Amazon studying within the Shipibo-Konibo tradition, he wrote the majority of 2018’s The Talon - exploring new sonic territory with the help of producer and collaborator J Ashley Miller. http://folkmed.org http://Santiparro.bandcamp.com
