72: E-scooters: should you need a licence to ride?

Sarah and Nigel are joined by Sten Saar, CEO and Co-Founder of Zego; and Kelly Barnes , VP of Marketing at Laka to discuss insurance for e-scooters and e-bikes. According to Google Trends data, since the start of lockdown there has been a surge in interest in electric scooters – with a 376% increase in searches. In the UK at least they can only be ridden on private land but the government started limited, legal trials of rented electric scooters on public roads, cycle paths and lanes as part of its review of transport following the easing of lockdown. We dig into what insurance is needed to take these out on roads, and why you might need a driver's licence to ride a scooter - and any penalties are logged against your car insurance and licence.
