S01EP19: George Floyd, BLM movement, Swedish national day; what it means to be a national, our rights and getting our voices heard.

In this episode the boys sit down on the Swedish national day to discuss George Floyd, the BLM movement, and how to eradicate ethnic nationalism, racism and other extreme prejudices. George Floyd, who was murdered atrociously by police officers in the U.S.A has sparked a worldwide Black Lives Matter movement. The murder is indicative of the continuous police brutality with zero ramification, that black people has been facing in the U.S.A since its inception. The boys talk about the despicable actions of the president of U.S.A and discuss the need of the hour from the country's citizens. The movement has transcended the U.S borders and has raised questions here in Sweden as well. Although Sweden hasn't had such extreme examples but there are clear problems that exists in the society. The boys talk about Sweden's need to take accountability for its involvement in the transatlantic slave trade and not try to brush it away, if not reparation there should at-least be acknowledgement about their involvement  specially when Sweden was one of the last country in Europe to abolish slavery. The systematic racism, the segregation, the inferior education funds, the unequal economic opportunities and the exclusion of non-dominant Swedes in cultural institutions all have to be addressed. Finally the boys talk about the need to educate ourselves, articulate better and eradicate such extreme behaviors within ourselves and our households. Hold people around us accountable and make our voices heard in the voting booth for change to take place. The boys end the episode with an optimistic view of the future where they know and believe that their generation can and will do better and that people today are more united through the pandemic and the BLM movement more than ever before. So although there might be issues, they are blessed and grateful to be in Sweden, a democratic country where they can voice their opinions freely and get their voices heard!
