Mercy For Animals Founder Leah Garcés

Leah Garcés, president of Mercy For Animals and a longtime animal rights advocate, joins Jamie to discuss her groundbreaking initiative, “Transfarmation,” which helps farmers transition away from factory farming to sustainable, cruelty-free livelihoods. Leah shares her journey of teaming up with Craig Watts, a Perdue Farms contract farmer raising 700,000 chickens annually. Despite being on opposite sides of the issue, they joined forces to challenge the harmful practices of animal agriculture. As Leah reflected in her TED Talk, “My whole life I had spent blaming him, hating him. I never thought, he feels as trapped as the chickens.” We also dive into Leah’s powerful experiences, from stepping inside factory farms to caring for a rescued chicken as a pet. Additionally, we explore the hidden truths about how taxpayer dollars fund cruelty in animal agriculture and discuss what we can do to drive change.
