In this episode we take a deep look at the song's concept and lyrics, and what it means in the context of an incoming anti-feminist presidential administration. Subject matter experts—John Lee, the blogger/columnist/Twitter commentariat known as the Korean Foreigner; and Hye Jin Lee, Clinical Assistant Professor of Communication at USC—provide additional color. We also offer some recommended "hit replays" from the album. We additionally recommend reading a paper by Jieun Lee and Hyangsoon Yi which speaks to the recent configuration of "ssenunni" in hallyu/K-pop. Ssen-Unni in K-Pop: The Makings of “Strong Sisters” in South Korea: https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Ssen-Unni-in-K-Pop%3A-The-Makings-of-%E2%80%9CStrong-Sisters%E2%80%9D-Lee-Yi/698033bea56afc20f1731dd098c551c745701ca9Join us on Slack: https://join.slack.com/t/kpopcast/shared_invite/zt-93kzxcv6-YNej2QkyY6vaPnhEQJxk0AOur Newsletter: https://www.getrevue.co/profile/thekpopcastThe Kpopcast Crew:twitter.com/TheKpopcasttwitter.com/Sparker2twitter.com/michaelajkpoptwitter.com/DJPeterLokpopcast.net Hosted on Acast.
