EP 383: Paris History Avec a Hemingway (Johanna van Gogh-Bonger))

Johanna Bonger van-Gogh a name you may not know, but without her, we would never know her brother-in-law, Vincent. Married to Theo van Gogh, art dealer, and brother to Vincent van Gogh for less than two very short years. When Vincent and Theo died just six months apart, she was left with an infant and an apartment filled with paintings. Told they were worthless and to toss them out, her love and devotion to the brothers wouldn't let her part with them. Over the next thirty-five years, she would take on the mission to build the legacy of Vincent. Through the letters he sent Theo, she was able to direct the narrative of his life that was all but unknown. If it wasn't for the love and dedication of Johanna we would never know the beauty of Vincent van Gogh. Listen to the full episode about the life of this amazing woman.
