The Bay of Pigs Invasion, or Batalla de Girón, was a failed military invasion of Cuba sponsored by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to train and arm a group of counter-revolutionary Cuban exiles to overthrow Fidel Castro on 17 April 1961.
