Mark Collier, How Openstack and Telecom has Evolved Together

Mark Collier, Chief Operating Officer at the Openstack Foundation, talks with Sean about the history of the Openstack Foundation. Rackspace and NASA started Openstack using open source software back in 2010 to build data center servers. Now Openstack infrastructure has evolved to the point where over 3 billion mobile subscribers are using networks operating with Openstack software. As the demands on infrastructure have increased, Openstack has moved compute to the edge and mobile towers. As an example, Verizon is using open source StarlingX, Kubernetes, and Openstack to build their Radio Access Network (RAN) to drive down costs and improve performance.More information on the subject:https://www.openstack.org/use-cases/telecoms-and-nfv/https://www.starlingx.io/https://lincolnpolicy.org/tag/telecommunications/
