Give the people what they want

It’s been a tumultuous week around the world, with people grieving in their homes, glued to their screens in disbelief and outrage and marching in the streets against racism and police violence. It’s hard to believe that more than 50 years since the civil rights movement in the USA and 30 years since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody in Australia, black people are still being murdered by people in uniform,  and systemic, institutional racism and white privilege seem as entrenched as they have ever been. This week, in recognition of recent events,  Marty and Venetia share some tunes from the 1970s that seem just as relevant today as they were 50 years ago. Some are sad, some are angry, some are hopeful. All are moving. If music alone could change the world we would all be free.

Were you born in the Seventies? Join us for the sounds of the 70s every Saturday morning. Martin and Venetia will take you to the decade of denim flares, burnt orange kitchen benchtops and the birth of disco and glam rock! Each week we'll have a 70's theme that we'll explore, such as songs from disaster movies, movement anthems, one-hit wonders, daggy duets, funky numbers, and disco tracks that steamed up the dance floor in many an LGBTI venue, to name just a few. The 70s produced some amazing music and we're here to make sure that music is shared and never lost. NOTE: Due to music licencing requirements this podcast is unavailable outside of Australia.
