E 175. Ray Voigt shares dog training secrets
Today we have the pleasure of sitting down with Purina's Ray Voigt, one of the most insightful dog trainers you'll ever encounter. We've had Ray on the show in the past and the feedback was that he's a genius and a storyteller... so he is now a repeat guest. We had Ray at the kennel to record the show and hear about his summer roadtrip around the northeast and we review the National Amateur Field Trial Competition. We also discuss Master National and what Ray is doing to plan and prepare 3 months out from that level of competition. Then, we hear how Ray has conditioned dogs in the past with a roading system and get this... a kayak. We take a slight detour in conversation to hear about Ray's hunting trip to Argentina and how it's now on bucket list (and I bet yours, too). Okay, we jump back into dog training and talk about issues people have with their dogs and go into specific detail about how Ray would suggest fixing problems like loopy or crooked sits, bird boy blinds, line manners, watching birds and more. This is an extremely thorough conversation and Ray does a great job of explaining timing and what to watch for. Finally, we talk with Ray about some of the dogs he has trained in the past because they're often the "famous" dogs people refer to in their dog's pedigree. Seriously, go look through your dogs pedigree and you might find a dog Ray helped train. Want more Lone Duck? Join our Patreon and have Bob personally help work with you and your dog.
