MVP 005 - The Fear of Getting Started

What we are into outside of the shop? Stephen is into Castle Rock on Hulu. Trevor is into Man in The High Castle on Amazon. The fear of getting started. It's a fear we all face as makers but what’s the at the core of it? Stephen’s fears when he got started Initial cost of getting into making Wasting time and wood/materials Not being able to sell anything and going belly up Trevor’s fears when he got started Not putting out a perfect product or perfect craftsmanship Not putting out the highest quality you can. Having customer complaints or bad reviews. How did we overcome our fears initially? Other fears makers have and how we would overcome those as well. Lack of skills Not having the right equipment or any equipment Having a major failure during a project Trying out something new Charging what you are worth Family/life/work balance Time constraints Getting injured during making or having one of your products injure someone Having your making start to feel Once again we want to thank each and every maker who support the podcast, send in questions, tag us in your stories, or just simply continue listening each and every week. Om Podcasten

Welcome to the Maker Vision podcast. A podcast where we help you take your ideas from a dream to reality. Each episode, we’ll cover topics to help you overcome frustrations we all encounter in our maker community. I’m Trevor Wanamaker a part time maker running makerexperiment.com and my co-host Stephen Ellis is a part time woodworker running Old South Woodcraft. We have both encountered bumps and pitfalls along the road we call “making” and we are using this podcast to help you avoid the same pitfalls.
