Episode 38: Writer and Historian Fred Allison compares writing to being a fighter pilot

In this episode for June, we took advantage of Olivia's parents' visit to her to record a special Father's Day episode with her dad, Fred Allison, who is a historian by day and a writer by evenings/weekends. He has published several books and articles about military history. His most recent book is We Were Going to Win, Or Die There, a book based on numerous oral history interviews he did with the Marine Roy H. Elrod. This book has recently won a Marine Corps Heritage award. We loved talking to him on a range of topics, from the "ugly business" of cutting down the word count, working on too many projects at once, and being brave and quitting your job when you have four kids. And, how to think like a fighter pilot when you're writing. You can listen to the episode right here on this page, or get Marginally on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or wherever get your podcasts. Om Podcasten

For writers and creatives with day jobs they enjoy. Marginally is about supporting and encouraging people for whom writing – and all forms of creative pursuit – is part of a full life, not the only life. We’re not trying to have it all, but we do have a lot to do. We have day jobs, caring responsibilities, and other life commitments that are important to us. Maybe we don’t aspire to write full time. Maybe we do. Maybe we are on a longer journey to that destination, and we’d like you to join us.
