Broadcasting and Maori Development Minister Willie Jackson has had a colourful career in and outside of politics. Aged 21, Willie Jackson became the youngest ever freezing works union president. He was a union organiser, and a club bouncer in South Auckland, before becoming a record label executive and a band manager of Moana and the Moa Hunters, he was also a successful broadcaster, covering everything from politics to sports, along with a stint as a talkback host. As a politician, he was first elected to Parliament in 1999 with the Alliance. He returned to Parliament in 2017 with Labour, holding portfolios in employment, Maori development and now broadcasting.
