Who Are Shiva and Shakti? | The True Meaning of Shiv-Shakti

As Maha Shivaratri (Hindu celebration) is celebrated let us understand who are Shiva and Shakti? Guru Nanak tells us that the meaning of Shiv-Shakti (Ardhanareeswara) is a representation of a combination of all things in life, that the Divine is in all, birth and death, yin and yang, creativity and destruction. Lord Shiva the Destroyer (Purusha) and Goddess Shakti (Sati, Adishakti, Prakriti, Prakruti, Parvati) represent the interconnectedness of the world. Shiva is known as the highest yogi, the Adiyogi, he came to earth to teach us this essential and powerful message - before we reach the limit of our life we need to connect to the unlimited life force within us.
