Taking an Attention Diet

Our attention is under siege! These days there are so many things fighting for our attention that it can be a challenge to decide what to focus on.We are constantly bombarded by “mental junk food” while scrolling on our phones, flicking through magazines or surfing the internet.Like actual junk food, consumption of too much “mental junk food” can be damaging to our minds. On episode 24 of Mentally Stronger, I explore the idea of an attention diet. This idea allows you to experiment with what works for you and what doesn’t. But, what it boils down to is consuming less “junk” content – for instance through mindless scrolling or half-watching TV – and rather consuming more nutritional and uplifting information.I hope you find this useful.Key links:Melli O’Brien: https://melliobrien.com Mark Manson on the Attention Diet idea: https://markmanson.net/how-to-improve-focus#goals
