Episode 4: June Millington from FANNY

Metal Priestesses , Elizabeth Galdamaz, Hear She Roars Blog and L.A. punk band Backstage Pass ,  Genny Schorr , Marina Muhlfriedel and Jessie Jacobson are honored to interview FANNY guitarist June Millington who founded the band along with her sister Jean Millington.  Originally from the  Philippines, the family immigrated to the United States in 1961 and the sisters face cultural differences and form a band in high school called The Svelts. In the interview, June speaks  candidly about the struggles and pressure of being  lead guitarist in  one of the very first all-female rock ‘n roll bands to be signed to a major record label.  Fanny joined worldwide tours  opening up for some of the biggest bands of the 1970’s  including Slade, Jethro Tull and Humble Pie.  Fanny  released four albums before disbanding in 1975, although June had left the group in 1973 due frustrations with the male dominated music industry and their lack of success. The group has continued to attract critical acclaim for their superior musicianship.  Second wave female bands such as the Go Go’s, The Bangles and The Runaways have cited Fanny as a key influence and inspiration. “One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. ... Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done.”” - David Bowie in Rolling Stone, 1999 Follow : Fanny , the band https://fannyrocks.com/Follow, listen , subscribe to Metal Priestesses Podcast https://www.facebook.com/metalpriestesseshttps://metalpriestesses.buzzsprout.com/https://www.instagram.com/metalpriestessespodcast/https://twitter.com/MetalPriestess2https://youtube.com/channel/UCeZ0nPy3dx4Sk0US9tzkT9A
