Siobhan Daniels on the ‘retirement rebellion‘ and her solo #vanlife travels around the UK

Siobhan Daniels is a retired BBC journalist and pro-age campaigner, part of the retirement rebellion. Almost two years ago she gave away her non-essential possessions, bought a motorhome, and started her solo travels around the UK. Not long afterwards, the global pandemic hit, and her plans came to a dramatic halt.   Now that she is 'on the road' again, I catch up with Siobhan to talk about why she decided to rebel against the stereotype of a quiet retirement of gardening and crosswords, what is was like surviving lockdown alone in a campervan, and how she picks the next spot on her almost-completely-unplanned route. We also cover positive aging, why we need to challenge ourselves as we age, and the book she is working on to inspire other women to take a chance and take on new challenges.   You can follow Siobhan's adventures at https://www.instagram.com/shuvonshuvoff/    (Update: her book, Retirement Rebellion, is now published: https://www.adventurebooks.com/products/retirement-rebel    Don't forget to follow us over on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/middlingalong_podcast/ or find out more/listen to past episodes/subscribe to the newsletter at https://middlingalong.com   It would mean so much if you’d subscribe, rate, and review us on Apple Podcasts to share the love! Om Podcasten

Hi, I’m Emma Thomas and I started the Middling Along podcast in early 2021. Often, we find as women hitting a ‘certain point’ in life, that we are so used to people-pleasing, and making sure that everyone else is OK, and their needs are met, that we have lost touch with what we want, what we need, who we are… I started Middling Along with the aim of reclaiming my own ‘midlife’ and finding my happy. Along the way we’ve covered stories of people starting new businesses, changing careers, and taking up new hobbies that have changed their lives forever. We also cover topics such as perimenopause, menopause, and positive aging. Join us for a dose of inspiration - and make sure you spend your ’messy middle’ years thriving too!
