«Talking to yourself in English»: 3 reasons people give up on this exercise and ways to make it work

They say you need to speak more if you want to speak better English...If you don't have a speaking partner, the general advice is - "talk to yourself".Many people embrace this idea with enthusiasm, but they quickly give up on the exercise... In this episode, I'm sharing the most common reasons people quit practicing (no feedback, no fresh ideas, no sense of progress...)as well as many ways to make this exercise work.I'm analyzing feedback from people I've been teaching over the last 15 years. People usually quit if they haven't seen immediate astonishing results. Nothing is immediate when we speak about mastering a skill.Hopefully, the examples in this podcast will help language learners enjoy the exercises and improve the quality of their spoken and written communication in English. The podcast is recommended for intermediate, upper-intermediate, advanced + levels.Music credit - Gavin Luke - Paradigm ShiftInstagram - www.instagram.com/nataliatokarr/My website - courses.nataliatokar.me/

Hi, I'm Natalia Tokar, and I am not a native speaker.I created the methodology and the system of exercises to achieve native-like fluency in English because I couldn't find it anywhere. I've always been driven by the idea of effortless mastery and virtuosity. I learn new skills with one simple idea in mind - I want to be able to apply them in my everyday life situations, specifically in my spontaneous conversations with native speakers. To do so, I need to master the fundamental skills of building relationships in a foreign language. Native-like fluency is all about being able to be yourself and belong with others in every conversation, because every conversation is an opportunity to nurture the relationship.I say that effort must be effortful, where effort brings joy. My approach is based on following deliberate practice routines and receiving human feedback. Become a daring learner who can learn directly from the source and seek feedback from more advanced learners. When you know how you learn, you can create your own curriculum. I am an educator with 17 years of teaching experience and a creative business owner with 10 years of experience in global sales & cross-cultural communications.I share the methodology and my own practice routine in the community of practice and in the online programs that I create. WebsiteCommunity Hosted on Acast.
