Network Break 424: Amazon Invites Devs To Its Sidewalk Wireless Network; OneWeb Readies Global Satellite Internet Service

On today’s Network Break we discuss Amazon opening its Sidewalk network, which is a low-power, long-range network for IoT devices and wearables, to developers. HAProxy adds support for the QUIC protocol in its 2.7 Enterprise version of the open-source load balancer. The White House issues an executive order forbidding US government agencies from using commercial spyware that “poses risks to national security or has been misused by foreign actors to enable human rights abuses around the world,” but still leaves the door open for commercial and non-commercial spyware use. Cisco announces the end of life for its Prime Infrastructure appliance and software, Huawei names Meng Wanzhou as the next rotating chairperson, and Huawei also says its financial results show the company has reached a new period of stability despite significant import bans on components and technology. Networking startup Graphiant gets a B round of $62 million to build its SD-WAN/networking-as-a-service business, and OneWeb launches its final round of satellites that will enable it to commence global satellite broadband services by the end of 2023.
