Actions are the loudest voice.
Actions are the loudest voice.
It can be hard to feel like you are using your voice. Sharing your opinions. Knowing what to say. Worrying if it will be seen as right or wrong.
Especially right now. The global anti racism protests that have been triggered by George Floyd’s horrendous death. I know many of my friends and family feel like they need to show the world that they care and that they stand by their black sisters and brothers across the world, yet hold back from fear of saying the wrong thing. I know this because I have had replies to emails I have sent about this very thing.
There's an amazing article written by Natalie Morris for the metro > https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/01/white-people-why-vital-speak-racism-even-scared-12786718/
I will be honest - I felt like I didn't have the right words. Worrying that it wouldn't come across right. That I couldn't articulate what I wanted to say Like “who am I to have an opinion as a white woman who cannot understand” and has been extended many privileges in different shapes and forms because of how I look. I am doing a lot of reflection.
This may be true for you in many areas of your life. On this show we focus on being more visible and to stop hiding so you can grow and learn and have the work you love and have the career you want. But that doesn't mean you have to be the loudest in the room to get that.
“Your actions are your loudest voice”
It is about being genuine. Genuine action. and this can look different for different people.
Your way forward won’t be the same as other people's ways forward.
You have to decide what that looks like. And to do it for the right reasons. Not because everyone else is doing that so you will too.
Abi Adamson, a woman I don’t even known had a massive impact on me when she was talking about how organisations need to do things differently and her own experiences as a black woman - here is the video > https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-6674257575455924224-rNua
Don’t sit there over thinking and planning all the time. Do something today and then do something the next day.
Find your own way of using your voice. It doesn't have to be in everyone's face and you don’t have to do it to get more ‘likes’ on a post.
“This is about the internal work so that you can be there fully for others externally.”
If this is something that you know you want to do more of then reach out to me - depending on where you are at and what you want I may be able to help or I can definitely signpost you to some amazing people and resources..
I would love to hear from you - what action will you take - what does that look like for you? Let me know.
