Helping Your ADHD Child|POF64

What is ADHD?  My guest, Dr. Tommy Black, explains it as a neurological disorder that impacts an individual's ability to sustain attention or maintain control of their motor functions.  As parents, if you have a child with ADHD, their behavior can be triggering and frustrating.  I can relate first hand!  ADHD is also confusing because sometimes your child can’t sit still, and sometimes they are hypyer focused.  Both can indicate ADHD…so what do you do? Lets look at the many types of ADHD: 1) inattentive and distractible, 2) Impulsive/Hyperactivity 3) combined type ( a bit of 1 and 2).  What signs should you be looking for if you aren't sure if your child has ADHD? First, your child has to show these signs prior to 7 years of age and those signs can't be related to other disorders or illness.  Look for these different behaviors:       Your child can't focus, preform tasks with multiple steps,       seemingly driven by a motor so they are always on the     go       they can't finish what they start       hyper focused on something like TV, videos or games.   Why doesn't "just sit still" or "will you pay attention" work with your ADHD child? Well this is the reason why ADHD can be so frustrating for both parents and kids… What if there was an app you could download to give you the help and support you need at your fingertips when and where you need it?  Dr. Black and his colleagues at Esteem Therapeutics, have developed a world class app to help you understand ADHD and help your child THRIVE!    Esteem empowers parents to know if their child's ADHD symptoms, social and emotional development, daily life skills, sleep quality, and medication side effects are trending up, holding steady, or even declining. Parents! We CAN change the world, starting with the way we're parenting our future. Up to this point in history, children have been seen as less than and parented in a way that uses power over a child. Most of us were parented in this way but there is a shift in thinking about the way we raise our kids. Parents don’t feel good about using shame, blame, criticism, punishments, and even rewards, to get their kids to listen. Parents are wanting a different way because they know from their own childhoods this type of parenting hurts and leaves us with scars we take with us through our adulthood. Each one of my episodes is designed to help you navigate the difficult journey of parenting but in a way that is more peaceful and intentional. I’ll show you how to get your kids to listen and cooperate without yelling, punishments and rewards. I’ll show you how to understand your own feelings and those of your kids. My intention is to bring you to a place where you feel connected with your kids and yourself (we often get lost when we become parents!). Tune in weekly for all the inside tips, tools and tricks I teach my private clients to help you build the family you always wanted, and to become the parent you always envisioned you would be. I promise to provide you with fun and entertaining content that will leave you seeing your kids and your reactions in a whole new light! Please make sure to share the episodes that give you goosebumps, and leave you feeling inspired! I am always grateful for every person who subscribes, leaves a review and rates my podcast 5 stars.
