Parenting in a Tech World | POF198

As we’re moving closer to summer break, it’s the perfect time to look at your kids’ screen use, gaming habits and the apps they’re using. Chances are that your kids will be spending more time on screens when they’re off for the summer, than in any other time of the year. In this episode, I’m talking to Titania Jordan who’s the CMO and Chief Parent officer of the online safety company, Bark Technologies. I’ve been a fan of hers for a while and follow her posts on Instagram. She shares the most current and relevant updates to help you keep your kids safe online. We talk about having a family tech contract when you give your kids their first phone or device (see contract sample below). Titania talks about what our kids are facing online, and how they’re using technology. Much of this, we simply don’t know about. The more we know, the more we can protect our kids which is why we’re talking about this in a way that helps you feel empowered, not overwhelmed! Some of the stats she shared are as follows. Look for the full list below. 35.7% of tweens and 64.3% of teens were involved in a self-harm/suicidal situation. 62.4% of tweens and 82.2% of teens encountered nudity or content of a sexual nature. As discussed in this episode, here are the extra resources Titania shared: Family tech contract https://info.bark.us/3Kj0AFa Full list harmful online dangers in Bark’s 2022 Annual Report https://www.bark.us/annual-report-2022/ For Titania’s Bark Resources for Parents, including Online Safety Tips for Parents and Alarming Trends in Kids' Online Behaviour, you can download it from the Parent Toolbox. www.parent-toolbox.com Social Media: Website: https://www.bark.us/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/titaniajordan/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/barktechnologies Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/barktechnologies/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@titaniajordan Twitter: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/barktechnologies Thanks for listening! Parents! We CAN change the world, starting with the way we're parenting our future. Up to this point in history, children have been seen as less than and parented in a way that uses power over a child. Most of us were parented in this way but there is a shift in thinking about the way we raise our kids. Parents don’t feel good about using shame, blame, criticism, punishments, and even rewards, to get their kids to listen. Parents are wanting a different way because they know from their own childhoods this type of parenting hurts and leaves us with scars we take with us through our adulthood. Each one of my episodes is designed to help you navigate the difficult journey of parenting but in a way that is more peaceful and intentional. I’ll show you how to get your kids to listen and cooperate without yelling, punishments and rewards. I’ll show you how to understand your own feelings and those of your kids. My intention is to bring you to a place where you feel connected with your kids and yourself (we often get lost when we become parents!). Tune in weekly for all the inside tips, tools and tricks I teach my private clients to help you build the family you always wanted, and to become the parent you always envisioned you would be. I promise to provide you with fun and entertaining content that will leave you seeing your kids and your reactions in a whole new light! Please make sure to share the episodes that give you goosebumps, and leave you feeling inspired! I am always grateful for every person who subscribes, leaves a review and rates my podcast 5 stars.
