The Fear of Not Being Perfect | POF141

This episode is packed with so much information, it has something for everyone!   We are talking about working mom life, parenting, toxic positivity, setting boundaries and how to sit in your power as a woman!  Please meet my wonderful guest, Christine Michel Carter, who is the #1 Global Voice for Working Moms.   She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in helping career women navigate the workplace and, when needed, works with them to transition to new flexible opportunities without sacrificing their income. Throughout our discussion the same theme kept emerging and that is how striving to be “perfect” is holding us back! Whether you are a working mom or not, it still applies.  Wanting to be perfect can stop us from asking for help, delegating, putting up boundaries and communicating OUR wants, needs and thoughts.   Perfectionism is driven by FEAR.  Fear that we aren’t good enough, not worthy or an imposter.  To be HUMAN is to be imperfect, so can we please stop right now with the perfection?  If that idea is hard for you, let me ask you, what is being perfect costing you?  Sanity, burnout, relationships, health, and peace?  When you reject perfectionism, you open the door to vulnerability which is hard, BUT you’re already uncomfortable…right?  AND if we can all reject it, it helps all of us because when we no longer need to keep up the lie of it (which is exhausting!) it gives others the permission to do the same.   I couldn’t get enough of Christine and I know you will love this episode!  For Christine’s guide, “Stopping the need to be needed: How to avoid co-dependency in parenting” you can download it from the Parent Toolbox.  www.parent-toolbox.com About Christine Michel Carter Known as the #1 Global Voice for Working Moms and featured in the Washington Post and New York Times, Christine works with the Congressional Caucus on Black Women & Girls, the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on maternal and child care related issues, and has most recently worked on the maternal initiatives of Vice President Kamala Harris including the Maternal CARE Act. Om Podcasten

Parents! We CAN change the world, starting with the way we're parenting our future. Up to this point in history, children have been seen as less than and parented in a way that uses power over a child. Most of us were parented in this way but there is a shift in thinking about the way we raise our kids. Parents don’t feel good about using shame, blame, criticism, punishments, and even rewards, to get their kids to listen. Parents are wanting a different way because they know from their own childhoods this type of parenting hurts and leaves us with scars we take with us through our adulthood. Each one of my episodes is designed to help you navigate the difficult journey of parenting but in a way that is more peaceful and intentional. I’ll show you how to get your kids to listen and cooperate without yelling, punishments and rewards. I’ll show you how to understand your own feelings and those of your kids. My intention is to bring you to a place where you feel connected with your kids and yourself (we often get lost when we become parents!). Tune in weekly for all the inside tips, tools and tricks I teach my private clients to help you build the family you always wanted, and to become the parent you always envisioned you would be. I promise to provide you with fun and entertaining content that will leave you seeing your kids and your reactions in a whole new light! Please make sure to share the episodes that give you goosebumps, and leave you feeling inspired! I am always grateful for every person who subscribes, leaves a review and rates my podcast 5 stars.
