After - One Direction FanFic turned Film Franchise

Happy Monday! This week, Katie and Michae are kicking off a brand new series here on Popcorn Chats...The Cringe Series. Both of them have a love for cringey films, and there was no better way to kick off this series than starting with Harry Styles fanfic written by Anna Todd turned book series turned film franchise, After. They called in their friend, Olivia, a former and current 1D stan, to share her thoughts on seeing this story play out over the years. The three talk about their standout cringey scenes and characters, but also redeemable moments throughout the film. Katie shares her frustration with the character trope that Tessa falls into, Liv talks about her disappointment in Selma Blair, and Michae points out the plot hole in Hardin’s plan to get Tessa back at the end of the film. They also talk about fandom culture, their thoughts about a franchise capitalizing on a real person, and the future of this franchise, as the second film, After We Collided, was due to be released this year. Stay tuned for more episodes in our Cringe Series, but check back in next Monday for when Katie and Michae discuss Netflix’s new show, Hollywood!*Side note from editing Michae: I don’t think I explained myself the best when discussing fandoms, especially on Twitter, so I just wanted to point out that I do not believe that fandoms as a whole are toxic. I understand they can be very loving and accepting communities for people over a mutual love for something, however there are certain people within them can be toxic. I’m a huge 5SOS stan, (ask Olivia especially), so no disrespect towards the fandom(s) as a whole!*--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/katie-healy/supportSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/popcornchats.
