Professor Kozlowski discusses Dostoevsky's shamelessly expository first book of The Brothers Karamazov, including the "muddle-headed" and dissipated father Fyodor, hapless Dmitri, capable Ivan, and Alyosha - who may very well be Dostoevsky's most successful attempt at making a convincing heroic protagonist.
