In this episode, I'm joined by Richard Hawkes. Chief Executive of the British Asian Trust since 2015, prior to which he held a range of senior roles in the UK and international not-for-profit sector for more than 25 years and was The Founding CEO of Sense International. In October 2020 Richard was awarded an OBE for his contribution to the charity sector and we talk about how it felt to receive the award. Richard was formerly Chief Executive of Scope (one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in the UK), International Director of VSO (a UK based international NGO working in 40 countries) We talk about Richard's upbringing in Wolverhampton, being surrounded by different cultures and discovering the communities that he grew up with. During the episode, Richard shares a tonne of value, from his approach to networking from an early age, his career journey to getting where he is, the true impact of COVID on South Asia and on the knock-on effects it's had on things like anti-trafficking.
