Infection & Response: Vaccinations💉 GCSE Biology Learning & Revision

In this episode, we discuss vaccination.

Vaccination is a primary method for training the immune system to identify and combat harmful microorganisms. This process involves introducing a weakened or inactive version of a pathogen, prompting the body to produce antibodies and create memory cells.

These memory cells enable a rapid and robust immune response upon future exposure to the same pathogen, preventing illness.

When a significant portion of a population is vaccinated, it establishes herd immunity, making it difficult for diseases to spread and thus protecting even those who cannot be vaccinated. This collective immunity arises from the reduced likelihood of contact with an infected individual.
