In this #chequeredflag episode, Gordon May speaks to renowned motorcycle racer and tuner, Aspi Bhathena. To date, Aspi is the only Indian rider to have successfully completed the Isle of Man TT. Aspi began racing at the age of 17 on a 173cc Crusader then progressed onto an Enfield Mini Bullet 200, winning many races including against larger motorcycles. It was while he rode a Continental GT 650 twin around the Isle of Man circuit with former World Champion, Fast Freddie Spencer, and Eicher CEO, Siddhartha Lal, in 2019 that the Continental GT Cup championship was conceived. Inspired by the racing culture of the 1960s, the Continental GT Cup series was launched in October 2021. Built around Royal Enfield’s award-winning 648cc parallel-twin engine, the race-ready Continental GT-R650s are manageable for novices as well as being a potent, highly capable racer in the hands of experienced riders.
