EP1 - Lawrence Dallaglio on Pride

As a Rugby World Cup winner with England, Lawrence is one of the sport's most decorated characters. His story is a colourful one, and his early years were shaped to a large extent by the tragic loss of his sister Francesca in the Marchioness river boat disaster on the Thames. It became his driving force, and the source of much pride to him, to honour her memory with his performances on the pitch. A fiercely proud family man and patriot who used emotion and passion to fuel his rugby like few others, Lawrence enjoyed enormous success on the field with Wasps, England and the British and Irish Lions. He also encountered the darker side of a high profile, in a newspaper sting that resulted in the loss of the England captaincy. ......................................... Om Podcasten

Those of us that love sport, live it and breathe it. We feel it. It reaches deep down into our body and soul, and elicits every emotion imaginable: from despair to elation, from vulnerability to anger. Whether we’re playing sport, coaching it, watching it, listening to it, or reading about it, our emotions drive our every response and relentlessly keep us coming back for more. This is a podcast that explores twelve key emotions with some stellar sporting names, and uncovers just how those feelings affected their careers, both as a motivation, and as a limitation. It is a journey into the emotional psyche of some Britain’s most talented, most successful, most articulate sportsmen and women.
