This lecture discusses key ideas from the ancient philosopher and statesman Marcus Tullius Cicero's work, On Fate, which discusses problems and perspectives on determinism, causality, and freedom of the will. Specifically it examines his discussion early on in the work about a determinism that would view human actions and events as in some way caused by features of the physical environment of places a person is born or raised, or as caused by their temperaments, which they might have received in a variety of manners.
