Martin Scott | Sunderland | Sticker No. 445

Our search has remained in the North East and we’ve struck a very rare find. Martin Scott made 17 Premier League appearances for Sunderland during the 1996-97 season and even scored in the Wear-Tyne derby during this famous campaign. Scotty talks us through his big money move (£750k!) from Bristol City to Sunderland at Christmas 1994, and the even bigger drive he had to make north to sign for his new club. From smashing Peter Reid (his manager) in training to taking an early bath with Paul Stewart at Highbury, and loads of caper in between, it’s another classic dribble down Memory Lane. Thanks for the great feedback you’ve given Searching For Shineys so far. If you can tell fellow 90s football fans about us, and rate us on iTunes, it would be a massive help. Om Podcasten

A podcast series in which two old uni friends, Matt Ketchell and Richie Wyatt, attempt to track down and interview as many footballers who featured in the 1997 Merlin Premier League sticker book as they can find. The pair ask players questions football fans have always wanted the answers to, take a nostalgic dribble through the playing career of their guest and stop to focus on the 1996/97 Premier League campaign, a period widely regarded as British football’s sweet spot.  Hosted on Acast.
