The Mother, The Prison, The Daughter

Michaela Booth was neglected by her heroin addict parents when she was a child. As a teenager, a sixty second act of violence led to her ending up serving a prison sentence in the same prison she used to visit her mother in. Her painful memory of  leaving her own daughter to be cared for by her heroin addicted mother tormented her. The stigma of her conviction and imprisonment propelled her to change her life and the cycle that threatened her daughter. As a criminologist with lived experience she now provides invaluable insight and direction that is changing the prison health care provision for female prisoners and is a powerful advocate and force for change. Links:Twitter: @michaelabooth7Drug addiction: getting helpWomen in PrisonChildline | ChildlineSecond Chance: facebook.com/RaphaelRowePodcast/Second Chance Webpage: Second ChanceYour Vision Media LTD: www.yourvisionmedia.tvSupport the show Hosted on Acast. Award Winning Second Chance is a podcast series that explores the theme of second chance. It raises the questions who deserves a second chance, who decides who gets a second chance and what a second chance actually means. On this podcast we speak to people from all walks of life about their experiences, some who have been given a second chance in life, some who might be considered to be beyond deserving a second chance. The host of the podcast series is Raphael Rowe, host of the critically acclaimed series ‘Inside the World's Toughest Prisons’ on Netflix. He is also a former correspondent for the world's longest running BBC TV current affairs show Panorama the BBC Radio 4 Today programme as well as a regular contributor on The One Show and Sunday Morning Live on BBC One.
