Why Isn’t Busy A Badge Of Shame?

After my conversation with renowned therapist Terri Cole in the last episode, I continue to consider my history of doing too much. That is the title of her new book,Too Much: A Guide To Breaking The Cycle of High-Functioning Codependency. With my nine kids and business and pursuit of personal growth and experiences, many, many people, my kids included, often come to me apologizing for taking my time, as they know I’m “so busy.” And it’s because they have seen me for so long, being too busy. And what I now realize is that I am, primarily because of poor choices. I’ve wanted my cake and to eat it too. I prided myself on being able to do too much because I’m stronger and more capable. How arrogant is that? I’m not promoting shame, but just posing the question that today I view being super busy as a badge of poor choices more than being important or valuable. And I’m pointing fingers. At myself. And there are always exceptions with people victimized and very busy that I have great compassion for. I have some further thoughts on the issue.
