Lauren McDonough on Self (Harm): How to take powerful steps toward mental strength.

This episode comes with a content warning, we’ll be discussing suicide and self-harm and if this is not something that you’re able to consume right now, that’s absolutely fine. Take a listen to another podcast, or have a listen to one of our other Self(ish) episodes. If you or somebody you know is struggling at the moment, visit Beyond Blue’s Get Support page on their website which can connect you to a counsellor 24/7, as well as provide so many mental-health resources for every kind of situation. Lauren McDonough is a suicide survivor, mental health advocate, amputee, and model. At the age of 19, after battling years of debilitating mental health struggles, she threw herself in front of a Melbourne train in a suicide attempt that led to the loss of both of her legs and severe spinal injury. What followed was a period of painful physical and mental rebuilding and rigorous self-work to get to a better place. Determined to deter anybody else who may be struggling from reaching the place she found herself in, Lauren is a powerful mental heath speaker, disability advocate, and model.
