In Malawi, belief in witchcraft is widespread, affecting all demographics and fostering violence, especially against women, the elderly, and children. Efforts to address witchcraft-based violence are hindered by poverty, patriarchal structures, and proposed legal changes that recognize witchcraft, which could legitimize harmful practices rather than mitigate them. About the Author: Wonderful Mkhutche is the founding executive director of Humanists Malawi.
