Irra Ariella Khi stepped back from her company to set up Sunflower and facilitate the humanitarian response in her home country. When the news of Russia’s invasion of her home country of Ukraine reached Irra Ariella Khi, she immediately set up a fundraising page for “people on the ground who have no means to survive unless we can help them directly”. But as the first week of the war went on, it became clear to her that she needed to do more than raise money. “I was speaking to people who knew I was Ukrainian, who were saying they didn’t have an NGO [non-governmental organisation] partner to receive the aid they wanted to send."
