Soundroom Podcast 038 - Grimm (Ro)

Ascending from the authentic underground sound that defines Romanian electronic music, GriMm (www.soundcloud.com/user-56220666) is a 2 piece group based in Bucharest formed of lifelong pals Emmanuel Deaconu and Emanuel Cristea. Strongly influenced by the flowering minimal-techno scene, GriMm tries to bring it's own contribution to the Romanian sound through their dreamy and melancholic sound. Starting in 2016 with their first release "Privighetoarea" on Unknown Artist records followed by the release of "Novaci" on Rodark Records, GriMm promise to excite you with their sets that take you on a fairy tale-like musical journey through the most authentic sounds that will leave you dancing through the night. Only at the beginning of their career as a duo, GriMm is a name that you will surely be hearing about in the years to come. For this mix we actually wanted to make something special since this is our 3rd podcast guest mix for an online publication. We started our mix with something special that we first heard in Mihigh's set from the 2015 edition of Mioritmic and we continued with songs from artists that truly inspire us from our local scene and some from abroad like Carlo Santi, Archie Hamilton, The Mountain People and Giammarco Orsini. And since we mentioned that we wanted to make something special, we decided to finish with one of our unreleased tracks, a song that is really important to us since it was finished months ago but never saw the light of day due to label restrictions. www.facebook.com/GriMmRomania www.facebook.com/sndbucharest

No other genre of music that I've heard had such complex production methods where you can mix amazing bass grooves with minimalistic percussions/details, super organic sounds and elegant break-beat kicks which fit so perfectly together (and I've heard all from old school house to new deep techno and all in between). As far as Romania getting the title,it's mainly because they are the ones who took it to the next level, mind you this music is a form of micro-house/minimal that had been already in production for many years but on a very underground level - until Romania made it more popular (of course with the help of Ricardo Villalobos). The style of music really is something special, more intellectual in my opinion, because it takes a very trained ear to really understand it and enjoy it. For everyone whom is criticizing that it's only for druggies, this is very invalid information. Maybe the fact that it's so complex - it takes the average listener to take drugs in order to expand their mindset to listen and understand, but for those that get it, they do not need anything in order to enjoy such great abstract style of music." ◆◆
