22: Leadership doesn't come easy: 30 years of banking with Bret Packard, CEO, The Packard Network
Bret Packard is a story of success achieved through sheer hard work, persistence, exponential learning and putting up antennas. Metaphorically speaking of course. When Bret was a child, he got his first radio. "I just thought it was the coolest thing to be able to set up a big antenna on the telephone poles and with fishing line and, and set it up and listen to the BBC in London. My dad said, "Brett, you know, it's amazing- in our backyard, there are thousands of radio signals, both local and from around the world. All you got to do is put up in the antenna. And you can listen to them. This formed the basis for my leadership. And how I live my life, which is basically never chase anything, because you're never going to be happy if you're chasing someone or something. Set up that antenna and attract it and enjoy it." After spending 30 years in banking, he has a story to tell - or ten! What's extraordinary is that he kept a daily journal for 29 of those 30 years. And he tells us the lessons he's learned from living and working in 30 countries across the world. I’m your host, Nausheen I. Chen. I’m a leadership communications coach.
