E 168: Everything You Need to Know about Working with Millennials and Gen-Z In Leadership with Vivek Iyyani

This episode is brought to you by The Practical Guide to Effective Communication: Get Recognized for the Value You Already Contribute. The guest on today’s episode of Speak Up with Laura Camacho is Millennial and Gen-Z expert Vivek Iyyani. While Vivek was freelancing as a facilitator and youth coach, he participated in various enrichment programs in different schools working with teens on confidence, leadership, and team bonding. Along the way he realized this was the group that would soon be entering the workforce, and noticed a shift in their priorities compared to his peers and co-workers. When Vivek began looking at the research regarding Millennials, he saw that many of them struggle with a quarter-life crisis. This finding led to Vivek writing his first book: Empowering Millennials: The 5 Step Sequence to Design a Life of Fun, Freedom and Fortune. As he continued to interact with Millennials and Gen-Z in the workforce, Vivek noticed some difficulty in the relationship between older generations and Millennials and Gen-Zers. After doing a deep dive into what causes this tension he published his second book: Engaging Millennials: 7 Fundamentals to Recruit, Reward and Retain the Largest Generation in the Workplace. In this fascinating episode we discuss: -Three major cultural differences between Millennials and other generations -Commonly held misconceptions about Millennials -‘Blue tick anxiety’ and why Millennials and Gen-Zers are obsessed with it -Social skill discrepancies Millennials have compared to other generations -How to step up as the five-generation leader -How to improve relationships between Millennials, Gen-Zers and the older generations You can learn more about Vivek and how to work with him on his website.
