77. Tradwives & nazifluencers

Women have always played an important role in the far right, despite it being a political environment filled with misogyny. As the mother of white children, the woman has had an elevated role within white supremacist groups - and even if that position remains, the role has also changed with the breakthrough of social media. Today, women have become influencers for the political cause and are used to attract new sympathizers with content about traditional lifestyles and conservative values. How are women used in propaganda for right wing extremism? What place do women have within the modern far right? And what role has internet played to make them more visible? Host: Anna Fröjd Guests in the studio are Eviane Leidig, postdoctoral researcher at Tilburg University in the Netherlands, specialized on the global far-right, gender, and online radicalization and Expo researcher Åsa Mitchell. --- Läs mer: Nya vågen – högerextrem feminism (2022): https://expo.se/nya-vagen-hogerextrem-feminism  Traditionella fruar ger extremismen en städad front (2020): https://expo.se/2020/05/traditionella-fruar-ger-extremismen-en-st%C3%A4dad-front  --- Expo is a nondenominational and nonpartisan foundation. Our vision is a society where racist ideas have no influence. The foundation was established in 1995 by Stieg Larson (1954–2004) among others. Since the beginning, journalistic coverage of the far right has been at the heart of Expo’s work. What does Expo do? Monitoring – We gather information about racist groups, networks and phenomena, and we possess Scandinavia’s most extensive archive of far-right material. Our archive contains printed as well as digital propaganda, consisting of tens of thousands of documents. Since 2009 we have published annual reports on the racial-ideological milieu, and we produce didactic materials for schools. Journalism – We produce the quarterly Expo Magazine. It consists of features, analyses and opinion pages on racism in Sweden and internationally. We publish current news on our website and we disseminate our work in social media. We alos produce our weekly podcast Studio Expo. Education – Daily and throughout Sweden, Expo gives talks at schools, government agencies, NGOs and businesses. Our educational branch is tasked with strengthening people’s knowledge about the mechanisms, ideas, history and contemporary organizing of racism.
