SYS 025: How to give feedback that actually improves future behavior

Giving constructive feedback is a skill which often needs perfecting if you want to positively affect behaviour within your business. Join Steve as he discusses a four step model which can help you deliver feedback in the most impactful and professional way. Learn the importance of ensuring you always use the present tense, encouraging future behaviour and never giving written feedback.    KEY TAKEAWAYS  Giving good feedback is an art and a skill which you need to practice. Using the right tools can make this much easier. Feedback has one purpose, and that is to improve future behaviour, with that in mind it is important that you deliver feedback in a structured way.  Nobody can change the past and if you talk about an incident in the past tense, the person you are talking with could become defensive and come up with excuses as to why something didn't work. Instead, talk in the present tense. There is a four step model to giving feedback. Firstly, you ask the person if you can give them feedback. Secondly, state the behaviour in the present tense. Then, state the impact of the behaviour and finally, encourage future behaviour.  By using this same structure to give both positive and negative feedback, you are training yourself to give good feedback for both scenarios.  Try to avoid ever giving feedback via written text. Written text is time consuming to write and can easily be misinterpreted. Recording videos that the person can go back and review is a much better option, that person can see that no matter what the feedback is, your intentions are good.    BEST MOMENTS  This is an absolute make or break. It is something you have got to learn how to be brilliant at.” “Nobody can change the past.” “That person can see that your intentions are good.” “It will have a positive impact on future behaviour.”    Link to the book: The Effective Manager    VALUABLE RESOURCES Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/SystemsAndOutsourcing/  Website : https://systemsandoutsourcing.com/welcome-1  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/drsteveday    ABOUT THE HOST Steve used to be a slave to his business but when he moved to Sweden in 2015, he was forced to change the way he worked.
