Dr. Graham Turner | Talent Development in Sport PhD, Author, High Performance Pathways

Dr. Graham Turner has spent 25+ years specializing in coach and athlete development, holding a PhD in Talent Development in Sport. He works at the Australian Institute of Sport as a Performance Pathway systems leader. Graham recently became a published author with ‘The Young Athlete’s Perspective: Talent Development Stories: What They Want and Need.’ This book is something special, it is insightful and truly gives a voice to the six young athletes involved. Their stories are cleverly intertwined with the expert narration Graham provides - he doesn't override but instead amplifies what they're experiencing + explaining. Essentially, breaking down the 'what, why & how' parents + coaches can best help their aspiring young athletes. He leads through principled interaction, where respect is mutual, trust is established, and commitment is reciprocated. During this chat Graham shares about his extensive background in sport with roles including coaching, physiotherapist, teacher, physical preparation & injury management, consultant, sports science lead, lecturer + academic. I found it partiuarly comforting when we dive into his decision making for professional & personal moves throughout his journey. Graham has worked within high-performance sport institutions across the globe and across many high-performance sports, shaping systems & athletes to progress talent into medal winning performances.
