Imam Jamil Al-Amin Mixtape

KTVU News footage from 1967 featuring a press conference with Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin (then known as H. Rap Brown), who discusses non-violence, self-defense and freedom. He states that: "We have always had a strong position that individuals are given a God-given right to defend themselves. And what's more they're protected within the framework of the law." He also goes on to declare how: "Freedom cannot be given. It's not, y'know, a welfare commodity. Freedom is something that has to be gotten and taken by the people who are oppressed." When one reporter asks Brown: "Do you have any philosphical differences with Mr [Stokely] Carmichael?" Brown replies: "Not that I know of and if I did, I wouldn't tell you." Gil Noble hosted an interview program from 1968 to 2011 dedicated to interviewing modern black figures of humanity.
