There are people who see winning as a zero-sum game. In order for them to win - or feel good about themselves - somebody else has to lose (or at least feel bad). This approach to life is not only unhealthy and immature, it also undermines social relationships and the social structure itself. There are things that can be done, however, to keep growing in almost any social environment.
