A recent New York Times report revealed that the Democratic Party is marshaling its donor class in an effort to return to cultural dominance. The popular progressive narrative after the 2024 election has been that Kamala Harris did not lose because she was a uniquely unlikeable candidate with deeply unpopular positions, but because Joe Rogan had a podcast. Leftists' obsession with the role of the podcast sphere in the last election has led them to consider 26 different projects that would cost tens of millions of dollars to buy back the cultural influence they lost. The problem with that strategy is that progressives cannot buy the one thing they lack most: authenticity.
