The Dial: A Magazine for Poetry, Philosophy, and Religion Volume I "Dalliances with False Surmise" I thought it might be interesting to sketch a foundation of The Dial, both in the original and in the reincarnation currently underway. The Dial of 1840 was a joint-product of libertarians, freethinkers, and transcendentalists looking to forward a unique culture of liberty for an American continent in the age of "Classical Liberalism" (Free Markets, individualism, and rationalism).
