79. Nirbhaya: The Story of Jyoti Singh - India

Did you know woman is raped every 16 minutes in India? That adds up to 90 rapes a day, 630 rapes in a week and 2,700 rapes in a month. These are the official government figures from the year 2019. But most of these rapes never make it to the front page of your newspapers or the screens of your TV; they get lost among thousand other news pieces. But occasionally comes across a case that shocks a country to its core; a case that brings millions to the street in a fight for justice. In 2012, we all heard of a rape like that. This is the story of how India’s daughter was raped in the country’s capital and left to die; this is the story of Jyoti Singh.  Sources: https://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/04/world/asia/murder-charges-filed-against-5-men-in-india-gang-rape.html https://www.india.com/news/india/nirbhaya-gangrape-case-juvenile-convict-mohammad-afroz-was-working-as-cook-with-different-identity-2103108/ https://archive.nytimes.com/india.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/12/18/outrage-in-delhi-after-latest-gang-rape-case/ https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/delhi-gang-rape-chronology-of-events/article11862316.ece https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-51969961 https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/delhi-gangrape-main-accused-ram-singh-found-hanging/article4496333.ece https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21737748 https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/bbc-airs-nirbhaya-documentary-indias-daughter-in-uk-744394 https://www.firstpost.com/india/delhi-gangrape-victim-regains-consciousness-next-48-hours-critical-561535.html https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/rape-survivor-airlift-was-govt-not-medical-decision/article4246109.ece https://web.archive.org/web/20121231003459/http://www.hindustantimes.com/India-news/NewDelhi/Delhi-gang-rape-victim-writes-on-a-piece-of-paper-Mother-I-want-to-live/Article1-976798.aspx https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/detail/amzn1.dv.gti.9ab7d111-a385-2567-e270-5f742966c264?autoplay=0&ref_=atv_cf_strg_wb
