The TARDIS lands in a Victorian-era manor and the Doctor and Ace find themselves investigating the origin of its strange occupants, but Ace soon discovers that the mansion is the same one she burned down in her hometown. As she reckons with her guilt over this adolescent mistake, the pair's investigation leads them to find an ancient spaceship in the basement full of evolutionary experiments and a powerful entity called Light.
