Reflections after Ukrainian Independence Day

In the wake of Ukrainian Independence Day, Giselle and Iulia reflect on the past six months of the war and what developments could come in the winter and spring from the Russian and Ukrainian militaries, especially given high-level indications that the fall will be a turning point in the war. In celebration of Ukraine's Independence Day this week, they discuss how the incredible will of the Ukrainians during wartime is a beacon for all freedom-loving people and how the West should internalize lessons about patriotism from the Ukrainian people. Giselle and Iulia also consider how the war might evolve and continue to change transform European security architecture in 2022 and beyond.Show notes: Sign up for "The Eastern Front" biweekly newsletter https://www.aei.org/the-eastern-front-podcast/

Ensuring the balance of power in Europe has, since the inception of our republic, been a core security interest for the US. Today, and for the entire post-Cold War period, the challenges to the European peace have emerged along the line running roughly from the Baltic to the Black Sea. This is what we call the Eastern Front. Our goal in this podcast is to better inform the American people about what’s going on there. Join us, Iulia Joja and Dalibor Rohac every week on in our discussions on what’s next for “The Eastern Front.”
