So, What About NATO?

On April 20th, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made a surprise visit to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy—his first since the start of the Russian invasion—and reaffirmed Ukraine’s rightful place in NATO. Indeed, as the NATO summit in July nears, Ukraine’s potential membership is firmly on the table. On this week’s episode of The Eastern Front, Giselle, Dalibor, and Iulia consider questions related to NATO integration: What can the West continue to offer Ukraine in the lead up to the summit? How should we be thinking about NATO membership for Ukraine in this unprecedented framework of an ongoing war? Do we still consider NATO deterrence credible? And is it perhaps time to reform the NATO membership process?
